Objective To assess the value of ictal video-electroencephalography monitoring (IVEEG) in presurgical evaluation for medically intractable nonlesional temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE).
Cases of porencephaly and global atrophyof the temporal lobe were highly related to prenatal or perinatal insults including preterm delivery and asphyxia.
They discovered that monkeys that had bilateral temporal lobe lobectomies developed dramatic behavior changes in their memory, as well as their social and sexual behaviors.
Other important structures found within the temporal lobe include the olfactory cortex, which processes the sensation of smell, and the amygdala which processes emotions.
Their brains had less gray matter and their temporal lobes developed more slowly than the other children. The findings were reported in the journal JAMA Pediatrics.
